17 Oct Finding A Home

A 35-year-old woman was booked into our women’s Supported Temporary Accommodation after escaping domestic violence. She was taken into custody, due to an altercation with her ex-partner, and was released the next day. Being on parole and having nowhere to live took a significant toll on her mental health. She was severely depressed and finding it difficult to stay positive. With the support of our caseworkers and her mother—who came from overseas to help her—she got her life back on track. We were able to provide her with the support and assistance she needed, including assisting in her search for private rentals and preparing a support letter for her to use in private rental applications. In less than two months, the woman...

09 Sep New Systems Upgraded

Recently Providential have invested in upgrading our phone systems to a new digital platform, 8x8 Virtual Office, which is hosted in the cloud. It has proven to be much easier to use for our 24/7 service and can be utilised by all our staff regardless of location. This new system allows us to take calls from referral agencies from different regions, whether we are in or out of the office. We can also easily transfer calls to other staff at any time, provide live reporting, creates a safer and more secure communications system, and helps to protect the privacy of our staff working in the field. This system will gradually phase out our traditional mobile phone and landline services over the next quarter....

03 Jul New Accommodation

Providential have recently launched two new Supported Temporary Accommodation (STA) homes in the Parramatta region and Hills District. These new homes will be dedicated to providing supported care for women and children, including domestic violence victims. Guests at our accommodation will also receive one-on-one care and support from our Providential Homes Case Workers. We believe that our mission sets us apart from commercial accommodation providers, and is demonstrated by the higher-quality standards and added value we bring to STA. More than just accommodation, Providential Homes’ support model links clients with local housing, health and social services to enable their swift return to stable housing and address the underlying causes that have led to their homelessness. Our workers use trauma-informed and person-centred approaches to engage...

12 Jun Children’s Futures Changed

Recently, a grandmother approached Providential Homes for assistance after she had been given custody of her three grandchildren. She drove from Western Sydney to Queensland to pick them up. With tears in her eyes, she told Providential Homes how her grandchildren had not had a bed for more than two years, had no stable family life, and had been through more in their few short years than most people would over the course of their lives. She wanted to help the children and give them the best of beds, as they had been left traumatised by their circumstances. Providential Homes provided her with brand new bedding. We are also continuing to help her and her grandchildren as they settle in, assisting...

20 Apr Food Donations

Due to the high demand of our services, and the continued expansion of the accommodations that Providential provide, we have expanded our capacity for the production and distribution of meals and food through our Distribution Warehouse. Thank you to all the external support we receive to help feed so many people who are in need around our communities, including Oz Harvest, Food Bank, Second Bite, and Marley Spoon. We have had considerable donations of food and other perishable goods made over this past year. To give some scale to the amount of food that we receive, on average each month we are donated 4.808 Tonnes of food. This amount is also increasing each month as demand for our services and assistance increases. This does not include the...

07 Mar Mid Coast Expansion

This is an exciting period for Providential Homes! Last year we  established our services in Taree and the Great Lakes region. Mort Laursen heads up the Mid Coast Region, with our first guests being welcomed in to our new accommodation on November 3rd, and we were quickly running at full capacity. Along with out STA rooms Providential has also opened several Transitional Program rooms which are highly sought after. This year we have already expanded our program in Mid Coast to include to new Transitional Program rooms as the demand for our services has increased. We are working collaboratively with the case managers of the local Specialist Homeless Services—namely, the Great Lakes and Manning Youth Service (GLaMYS) and the Samaritans—and are achieving good results with our shared clients. Despite...

12 Dec Thank you Parklea Public School

A special thank you to Parklea Public School in North-West Sydney. At their Annual Presentation Day in December the school presented to Warren Weir, CEO of Providential Homes, a giant cheque that the children had raised through fundraising and wanted to donate to our organisation. They also gave Providential Assist Christmas gifts that the children had brought in. It must been around 20 years since this partnership commenced! We thank the principal, staff and students at Parklea Public School for their incredible support and fundraising efforts for the homeless in our society. ...

19 Apr Little Oasis

Providential recently were awarded a grant to create a community garden at one of our accommodations. This was a great project for our volunteers and the results are amazing. The guests now have a paved space complete with newly made bench seating and raised gardens beds that they can visit, meet other guests, help with the gardening, and hopefully enjoy the fruits of their labour when the vegetables and herbs bloom. To help launch this new facility a special day was held with free giveaway BBQ, face painting and garden activities. A special thank you to all our volunteers and staff who donated their time to help build this new space for quests....
